How We Helped East Nashville Clean Up After the Spring Storms

When severe storms tore through East Nashville, we loaded up our dump trailer and spent the weekend hauling debris for neighbors at no charge.

A Hauling Patriots dump trailer being loaded with broken tree limbs and storm debris on a residential East Nashville street after a severe spring storm

The morning after the spring line of storms blew through East Nashville, our phones started lighting up. Friends, neighbors, and former customers were all asking the same thing: can you come haul this for us? Most folks weren't worried about insurance. They were worried about the giant oak that was now sitting on top of their fence.

We made a call as a family that Saturday morning. Instead of running our usual job schedule, we'd hitch up the dump trailer and spend the weekend hauling for free in the worst-hit blocks off Gallatin Pike.

What we did

Over two days we made fourteen dump runs. Most loads were the same story: split limbs, shingles ripped off in sheets, fence sections, a couple of trampolines that had ended up two yards over. We worked alongside three other neighbors who showed up with chainsaws after seeing a post on the neighborhood Facebook group.

  • 14 trailer loads hauled to the transfer station
  • 9 households helped at no cost
  • About 22 hours of labor donated by our family and volunteers

Why it matters to us

We've lived in this part of town for a long time. When you grow up here, "the community" isn't an abstract idea. It's the lady three doors down who watched your kids, the mechanic on the corner who fixed your truck on credit when you were starting out. Showing up with a trailer when people need one is the least we can do.

How you can help next time

If a storm rolls through your block and you've got the time, even an hour of help with a chainsaw or a wheelbarrow makes a real difference. And if you ever need a dump trailer for storm cleanup, give us a call. We keep a couple of slots open in the schedule for emergencies.

Got a project in mind? Let's talk.

Whether it's a single-load haul or a full-day cleanup, we'd love to hear what you're working on.
